June 21, 2010 Meeting minutes
Kathy Anderson welcomed all members. We had 4 guests attending. Jeff Marcus did the honors of introducing our new President, Kathy Anderson. Kathy received a unanimous vote by the Leadership Board when the position was vacated by Robin Wipperling who resigned her position due to work and family conflicts. We have many events coming up this summer. The Anderson Center’s Summer Celebration will be July 10th at the Anderson Center from noon to 7 PM. Many various artists and musicians will be displaying their work including our club! We will have an outdoor tent approximately 15 x 15 to display and sell our photography, and promote our club! We need volunteers to man the tent in shifts throughout the day. The Anderson Center will have food, beer and wine, many things to see. A great outing for the entire family. Our July club meeting July 19th will be our Sargent’s Nursery shoot! Due to family issues, Sargent’s has requested that we move the time up. We will have a short meeting at 5:30, and will be free to shoot from 6 to 8 PM. They would like to be able to have everyone out by 8 PM. There will be 3 or 4 members roving as Mentors to help those that need some advice. August will bring a slight change in the date of our meeting. We will not have a regular Monday night meeting. Instead, we will have a Family Picnic August 15th, the Sunday before starting at 4:30 PM at Colvil Park. The club is furnishing hot dogs, burgers and buns, condiments. Members are asked to bring a salad, desert, or other dish to pass. We will be in the screened pavilion by the first marina. More info to come. Jeff then told members about the new website upgrades! We have moved our host site to Green Geeks. This gives us much more band width! Because of this change, members can now upload a total of 50 photos per person! They also can upload larger images, up to 2 mg! No need to resize smaller to upload! Other changes in the future will be more individual galleries, larger uploads, more features! Please frequent our website! Grace introduced our speaker for the evening. He is Rob Meyer from Red Wing. Rob has worked at the Republican Eagle in the past. He has traveled extensively to China, India, Laos, Viet Nam, South America. His photography has been featured in national publications and has won awards. He has a degree in Photography from Colorado Institute of Art. Currently a Freelance photographer, wedding, magazine work. Rob does all of his photography using black and white film and does his own developing and printing in his own dark room. He only uses digital for weddings. He was asked how it was to approach strangers in other countries to photograph them. He stated “It allows me to be comfortable in just about any situation regardless of the people I am around…..” We then went to the gallery and viewed his work. Tim Alms went through the current challenge photos and encouraged members to participate. Our new challenge will be Insects (Creepy, crawly bugs, spiders, etc). Members can now upload 10 photos to the challenge!!! Jim Martin introduced our new critique section. Tilton, Grace, Amy, Jim, Kathy, Jeff took turns critiquing 5 photos submitted by members. Each critique lasted 2 minutes or less. Those doing the critique have been through our workshop and been trained in how to critique a photo looking for technique, impact, composition. Positive feedback is given with possible tips to improve the photo if needed. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM. Submitted: Kathy Anderson, President/Secretary |
